Ion Marin, one of today’s most distinguished conductors, is among the rare maestros equally acclaimed in both the symphonic and operatic worlds. He has conducted many of the world’s foremost orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Staatskapelle Dresden, London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and NHK Symphony Orchestra. Regularly invited to major opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and Opéra National de Paris, he collaborates with artists including Martha Argerich, Yo-Yo Ma, Cecilia Bartoli, and Maxim Vengerov.
Professor of the endowed Claudio Abbado Chair in conducting at the Salzburg Mozarteum University since 2020, he also serves as Artistic Director of its symphonic activities. His extensive discography on Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, EMI, and Sony has earned him three Grammy nominations, a Diapason d’Or, and the German Record Critics’ Award.
