According to Evgeny Svetlanov’s will, The Svetlanov Legacy Charity established the Svetlanov Legacy Award at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Presented every four years, the award is intended to encourage and support talented young composers or conductors.
The first laureate was Antonino Abate, a young emerging Sicilian composer, chosen by the Roayl Academy of Music. His work have been performed internationally — in the UK (Wigmore Hall, Royal Academy of Music, Brighton Festival), Spain, Italy, Ukraine, and the US. A graduate of the Conservatoire “Alessandro Scarlatti” in Palermo and the Royal Academy of Music in London, Antonino has received numerous commissions and prizes, including the Muriel Dawson Composition Prize (2023). He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Composition at the Royal Academy of Music as a Leverhulme Arts Scholar.
