Marco graduated with honours in classical guitar from the A. Corelli Conservatory in Messina before studying Composition, Musicology and Conducting with Donato Renzetti. He continued his conducting studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Royal Danish Academy of Music, completing the Advanced Postgraduate Programme under Giordano Bellincampi and Michael Schønwandt. He also attended classes with Daniele Gatti, Hannu Lintu, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jukka-Pekka Saraste.

Stepping in at short notice to conduct Haydn’s The Creation, Marco made his debut with the Opéra Orchestre National de Montpellier to critical acclaim. 

He has served as Assistant Conductor at the Royal Danish Opera, the Opéra National de Montpellier and the Festival de Radio France.

Recent orchestral debuts include the Odense Symphony Orchestra, the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra, the Kosovo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra and the Chengdu Symphony Orchestra in China.

His operatic experience includes conducting Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol, Puccini’s Tosca, Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, Rossini’s Il Turco in Italia, Verdi’s Falstaff and La Traviata, Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Mitridate, re di Ponto, and Thomas’s Hamlet. 

A committed advocate of new music, Marco conducted the world premiere of Petrit Halilaj’s Syrigana in 2026, introduced works by Bettinelli, Di Bari, Elsa Barraine and Élise Bertrand to Scandinavian audiences, and his arrangements for the Bron Chamber Orchestra continue to be performed across Europe.
