Matthew holds a Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. He previously graduated from the conducting department of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Matthew is supported by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and the Sverker & Birgitta Lerheden Stipendiefund.

In 2022, Matthew attended the Fiskars Summer Festival in Finland, where he was mentored by Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Hannu Lintu and Dalia Stasevska. In 2023, he joined the talent development programme of Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen. In 2024, he attended the Tanglewood Summer Festival under the guidance of Stefan Asbury.

During the 2024/25 season, Matthew returned to the Malmö Symphony Orchestra following a successful debut in the 2023/24 season. That season, he appeared with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, and the WDR and Gürzenich orchestras as part of the German Conductors Award.

During the 2025/26 season, Matthew began a collaboration with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, with whom he first worked in 2023. He also conducted a revival of Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus with Vattnäs Konsertlada and Puccini’s Turandot with the Augusta Symphony. In the same season, he worked with Malmö Opera on a production of Paul Moravec’s The Shining alongside Patrik Ringborg.

He has also conducted the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Gävle Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Norrlands Opera and Västerås Sinfonietta.
