Mauro began studying cello before dedicating himself to conducting. He studied Orchestral Conducting with Professor Nicolás Pasquet at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar and furthered his artistic development through masterclasses and collaborations with Sofia Gubaidulina, Riccardo Muti, Renée Fleming, Neeme Järvi, Ton Koopman, Heinrich Schiff and Jane Glover.

In 2024, he won First Prize at the 4th Almería International Conducting Competition in Spain. In 2026, he was awarded Second Prize and the Orchestra Prize at the Sofia International Conducting Competition. A three-time Conducting Fellow of the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, he also received the James Conlon Conducting Prize and was awarded a scholarship by the Bayreuth Festival.

Mariani was selected by Paavo Järvi for the Conductors’ Academy of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich; by Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Jaap van Zweden and Johannes Schlaefli for the Conducting Academy of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival; by Daniele Gatti for the Accademia Chigiana; by Jorma Panula for the Panula Academy; and as a Conducting Fellow by Peter Eötvös for the European Creative Academy and by Cristian Măcelaru for the Cabrillo Festival in California.

He has collaborated with the Bamberg Symphony, Ensemble Modern, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and Staatskapelle Weimar.

Recent engagements include debuts with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Junge Kammerphilharmonie Berlin, Niederrheinische Sinfoniker in Verdi’s La traviata and the Niederbayerische Philharmonie in Johann Strauss II’s Eine Nacht in Venedig.
