Benjamin Ellin’s composing plans for 2016

Bataille de la Somme

Between January and August 2016 Benjamin will be working on a series of major commissions alongside his conducting commitments.

These include:

 

 

 

 

A new oratorio for the ‘Orchestre de Picardie’ to commemorate the Battle of the Somme. The forty minute work for orchestra, choir and soloists will be premiered in Amiens on 11th November 2016 with further performances currently being planned.

Benjamin will continue working with Writer Ben Maier and Director Olivia Fuchs on their new opera ‘WOLVES’.

A new work for solo harp as well as a new theatre score for a new play by Elizabeth Bowe.

Lio Kuokman @ Folle Journée en Région des Pays de la Loire

Lio Kuokman makes his great debut at La Folle Journée festival in the Loire Region whose theme this year is «Nature». He will conduct the prestigious polish orchestra Sinfonia Varsovia in the programme «Danube» composed of Johann Strauss’ waltzes.

The concerts will be held in La Flèche, La Roche-sur-Yon, Cholet, Laval, Saint-Christoph du Bois.

Samuel Burstin & the Paradisal Players gives a charity concert for Help Musicians UK

Samuel Burstin founded in 2011 his own orchestra, the Paradisal Players, whose concerts have raised over £100,000 for charities and worthy causes.
Their next concert is this Sunday 10 January, 6pm, at St Bartholomew’s Church in Sydenham, London, and features four Philharmonia players as soloists, and one as composer! Admission is free and a collection will be taken for the charity Help Musicians UK.

Rossen Gergov appointed Chief Conductor of the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra

Rossen Gergov has been appointed as Chief Conductor of the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, effective from January 2016.

His first concert as Chief Conductor will be a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No.3 on 8 April 2016.

The appointment comes after a very successful autumn which included debuts with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and SWR Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR as well as conducting performances of Henze’s The Bassarids at Nationaltheater Mannheim. The second half of the season will see Gergov return to Mannheim for Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Cherubini’s Médée.

Robert Trevino, Orchestre National de France @ Maison de la Radio

Robert Trevino will stand in for Daniele Gatti on the 17th of December,  leading the Orchestre National de France, for the concert which will be held at the Maison de la Radio.

The programme includes Bruckner’s Symphony n°4 and Schubert’s Symphony « Inachevée ».

Christoph Altstaedt debuts at the Theatre Basel

La Flûte enchantée au Théâtre Basel

This week Christoph Altstaedt makes his debut with the Theatre Basel in a new production of Mozart’s The Magic Flûte directed by Julia Hölscher. The premiere takes place on the 19th of December and performances continue until March 2016.

Admired by his peers and by the audience that evoke “a great discovery”, he led masterfully the Tatarstan Symphony Orchestra and Henri Demarquette in a contemporary program combining Dutilleux and Lutoslawski, last November 11th.
