Are you familiar with El día de los muertos, the Mexican folk celebration of the dead ? The Lille National Orchestra and Debora Waldman invited audiences of all ages to come experience this Halloween with a twist. The program submerged the listeners into an exotic and joyful universe of Mexican composers, such as Moncayo, Ayala Pérez or Revueltas, who sublimated the Amerindian tribal songs. A new Evgeny Svetlanov Conservatory in Omsk

It does not come as a surprise that more and more education establishments in Russia are named after Evgeny Svetlanov, like those of Moscow and Ekaterinburg. On October 21st, a new conservatory was honoured by receiving the name of the Master, Evgeny Svetlanov: that of Omsk.
Conservatory director Vladimir Aksamentov believes that Master Svetlanov’s name will make the students more involved in studies. He hopes that one day the conservatory will be nicknamed “Svetlanovka”, as is the case today with the renowned “Gnessinka” in Moscow, the success of whose students is well known.
Since it was established 55 years ago, “Svetlanovka” has received 4000 students. More than 400 students have gone on to become professors, professional musicians or painters. Today, the conservatory’s graduates work in orchestras, ensembles and universities in many cities in Russia and abroad: in the United States, Switzerland and Germany. In 2015, the Omsk Conservatory was ranked number One in the top “50 Art Schools of Russia”.

Conference tribute to Evgeny Svetlanov

conference-a-ekaterinbourg-15-04-16On April 15th 2016, the Evgeny Svetlanov Conservatory in Ekaterinburg, in collaboration with the City of Ekaterinburg, held a conference on the history of musical education in Russia, the difficulties of interpreting music and the schools that train concert musicians as well as the experience of great Russian musicians exemplified by Evgeny Svetlanov’s work.
An exhibition of the famous conductor’s personal items donated by his widow, Nina Svetlanova, as well as a concert where the conservatory professors performed music written by the Master, were organized to complement the conference.
At the end of the conference, it was decided to publish a brochure “Evgeny Svetlanov’s Cultural Heritage in Contemporary Sociocultural Context” and to organize a new conference in 2018 on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Maestro.
It is worth noting that the Evgeny Svetlanov Conservatory in Ekaterinburg is currently in the process of developing an education program on the musical heritage of the master, to be included in its musical training curriculum.

Glory to Maestro !
